ARTIKEL ULASAN: AKTIVITAS ANTIKANKER SPONS LAUT KELAS CALCAREAE

Abstract


Kanker merupakan penyakit akibat pertumbuhan sel yang abnormal dan tak terkendali, sehingga sel terus tumbuh dan merusak jaringan, bentuk, hingga fungsi organ disekitarnya. Pada tahun 2017, diperkirakan sekitar 9 juta orang di Indonesia meninggal akibat kanker. Rendahnya keamanan dan efikasi obat sintetik antikanker yang sudah ada, menjadi alasan munculnya penelitian untuk mencari alternatif obat antikanker yang berasal dari herbal, yang diketahui memiliki efek samping yang lebih kecil. Beberapa spesies spons kelas calcareae, diketahui memiliki potensi sebagai terapi antikanker. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari parameter sitotoksisitas, yaitu IC50 dari masing-masing spesies spons. Aktivitas antikanker spons diamati pada delapan jenis sel lini kanker, yaitu K562, HeLa, HepG2, THP-1, A549, PC-9, HT29, dan MCF-7. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa beberapa spesies spons kelas calcareae, memiliki aktivitas sitotoksik pada kedelapan jenis sel lini kanker.
