PEMBERDAYAAN RUMAH TANGGA MELALUI ECOLOGICAL LITERACY DAN PRODUKSI ECO-DETERGENT DI DESA JATIROKE, SUMEDANG, JAWA BARAT
Abstrak
Single-use detergent packaging has become a serious environmental and economic issue for rural communities. This condition is further exacerbated by the low level of ecological literacy and the high dependence of households on industrial detergent products. In response to this issue, this community service activity, conducted through the Integrative Student Community Service–Community Learning and Empowerment Program (KKN–PPM) of Universitas Padjadjaran, aimed to improve ecological literacy while strengthening household economic resilience through training in the production of eco-detergent. The activity was carried out in Jatiroke Village, Sumedang Regency, using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach involving residents, local groups such as PKK and Karang Taruna, and university facilitators. The training materials included education on the environmental impacts of plastic waste, household financial literacy, and practical sessions on producing eco-detergent using natural ingredients, such as coconut-based surfactants and fruit enzymes. The novelty of this program lies in its integration of ecological literacy, household economic efficiency, and locally based eco-detergent production practices within a participatory empowerment model. The results showed a reduction in household detergent expenditure of up to 50% and a decrease in plastic waste of 90–95%. In addition, the program improved participants' understanding of sustainable consumption and encouraged the formation of community groups capable of producing eco-detergent independently. These findings indicate that households can serve not only as targets of environmental education but also as key actors in developing sustainable consumption practices that are economical, practical, and potentially replicable in other villages.
