Hubungan antara pengetahuan dokter gigi tentang green dentistry terhadap tindakan pengelolaan limbah tempat praktik
The relationship between dentist knowledge regarding green dentistry to the practice of managing dental clinical waste
Abstract
Pendahuluan: Praktik kedokteran gigi dapat menghasilkan limbah dan mengonsumsi sumber energi dan air yang cukup besar. Risiko yang dapat ditimbulkan akibat limbah praktik kedokteran gigi cukup besar sehingga pengelolaan dan penanganan limbah medis harus diperhatikan dan dijalankan dengan benar oleh setiap dokter gigi. Oleh karena itu, tahun 2007 diperkenalkan sebuah konsep “Green dentistry” atau dikenal juga dengan kedokteran gigi ramah lingkungan yang bertujuan untuk mengurangi dampak lingkungan akibat proses administrasi, konstruksi, prosedur dental, serta material dental. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan Green dentistry dokter gigi dan pengelolaan limbah tempat praktik di Kota Bukittinggi. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan observasi analitik dengan desain cross-sectional. Jumlah sampel 37 dokter gigi yang berpraktik mandiri. Teknik sampel dengan cara pengambilan sampel acak sederhana (simple random sampling). Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara memberikan kuesioner mengenai pengetahuan dokter gigi tentang Green dentistry serta dilakukan observasi pengelolaan limbah di tempat praktik. Analisis statistik menggunakan uji Fisher. Hasil: Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan terdapat hubungan signifikan antara pengetahuan Green dentistry dengan tindakan pengelolaan limbah tempat praktik dokter gigi dengan nilai p=0,000 (p<0,05). Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara pengetahuan Green dentistry dokter gigi dan pengelolaan limbah tempat praktik di Kota Bukittinggi.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Dental practice was produced waste and consumed a large amount of energy and water. Waste produced from dental clinic should need proper management then applied carefully by the dentist. Hence, green dentistry concept was introduced in 2007 aimed to reduce environmental impact due to administration, construction, dental procedure, and dental material. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between the dentist’s knowledge of green dentistry and waste management of the dental office in Bukittinggi. Methods: In this observational-analytical study with the cross-sectional approach, 37 private dental practitioners participated. Simple random sampling technique and data collected by Green Dentistry’s Questionnaire, then waste management was observed in the dental office. The data were analysed by using the Fisher test. Results: In this study, 56.8% dentist never heard about green dentistry terminology. Meanwhile, we founded that 75.7% had excellent knowledge about green dentistry with75.7% respondent had well performed in waste management. Statistical analysis shows that there is a significant relationship between the knowledge of green dentistry and dental waste management practice with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There was a correlation between the dentist’s knowledge of green dentistry and waste management of the dental office in Bukittinggi.
