Edukasi Literasi Keuangan untuk Membangun Ketahanan Ekonomi Keluarga Nelayan Batukaras
Abstract
The uncertainty of fishing yields, weather conditions, and household income underscores the importance of sound financial management for the economic resilience of fishing households. This community engagement program aimed to assess the financial literacy among fishers in Batukaras and strengthen household financial management knowledge through educational activities involving fisher households’ wives. The program comprised an initial survey, data collection from 31 fishers, a descriptive assessment using nine financial literacy indicators, and a financial education session attended by 25 fishers’ wives. The educational intervention incorporated presentations, contextual case examples, income-allocation simulations, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The initial assessment indicated a high level of financial literacy, with a total score of 1,000 out of 1,395; however, household financial management remained an area requiring further improvement. Evaluation of the educational activity showed an increase in the mean score from 7.6 on the pre-test to 8.3 on the post-test, while the median increased from 8 to 9. Descriptively, these findings indicate an improvement in participants' knowledge based on the descriptive comparison of pre-test and post-test scores. Context-specific financial education may enhance fishing households’ capacity to manage fluctuating income and contribute to greater economic resilience.
